The former Baloise training centre site is being transformed into new residential space with 64 rental apartments. Halter is responsible for the project as a general contractor from development to completion. The decisive factor in winning the contract in the general contractor competition was the responsible handling of the existing building structure. Accordingly, the existing main building will be dismantled down to its supporting structure and further construction will continue on the existing building. Two additional new buildings will expand the ensemble; all three buildings are connected underground through a shared underground car park. The materials from the deconstruction will be reused in a purposeful manner: concrete façade panels will serve as walkway slabs in the outdoor area, and cut-to-size ceiling elements will be integrated as structural balcony slabs for the new apartment access in the existing building. The project combines economic efficiency with the responsible use of existing resources.
