Halter AG specialises in forward-thinking construction and real estate services with a strong commitment to people, the environment and investment.

As a reliable partner, we identify the development and utilisation potential of sites, land, construction projects and real estate, implement them strategically and create valuable living space. We build according to design-build principles. Our transparent, competition-based process – with early contractor involvement – enables integrated planning and execution, fostering innovation, higher productivity and recyclability through consistent information management.

Founded in 1918, Halter is today one of Switzerland’s leading and most innovative construction and real estate companies, with around 400 employees and offices in Schlieren near Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lucerne, Lausanne, Geneva and St. Gallen. The company is owned by Balz Halter (majority shareholder), Markus Mettler (Chairman of the Board of Directors) and other employees. Since 2024, the company has been led by CEO, Maik Neuhaus.

A Halter Group company

More than 100 years ago, Halter Bauunternehmung – later Halter AG – laid the foundation for today’s Halter Group. The Halter Group functions as an ecosystem of autonomous companies, offering a wide range of construction and real estate services across the entire life cycle of real estate. All activities are guided by a shared vision: achieving net-zero sustainability in every project through the establishment of a circular economy.

Each company within the Halter Group operates independently, pursuing a best-in-class approach that serves the interests of its clients. This structure not only enables an integrated, functioning circular economy, but also fosters genuine market innovation. Today, the Halter Group consists of ten companies, two of which are majority-owned.

More about Halter Group

Our values

Entrepreneurial
Entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and collaborative partnerships are at the core of our client relationships. The success of our clients and partners is the measure for our competence and sense of responsibility. Nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset, and promoting it within our environment, is one of highest priorities.
Innovative
Innovation improves the quality of life, enhances the usability of the built environment and increases productivity. Achieving this requires collaboration – both within internal and external networks – supported by broad expertise across the entire real estate life cycle. An open and curious corporate culture provides the foundation for continuously developing our products and processes.
Sustainable
We take a holistic approach to sustainability, always striving for solutions with a long-term perspective. Guided by the circular economy and transparency, we are committed to meaningful architecture and well-designed urban development. Our goal is to deliver profitable, long-term investments for investors while creating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions through the optimised use of digital technologies.

How we operate

Partnership-based

... because the challenges of the circular economy and the 2050 net-zero sustainability goal can only be met through collaboration. This calls for transparent remuneration and contract models with aligned interests, as well as the conviction that sharing knowledge strengthens the competitiveness and innovative capacity of everyone involved.

Circular

... because right from the planning stage we consider resource consumption during construction, operation and demolition. By choosing sustainable, recyclable materials, separating them properly and reusing components, we reduce waste, minimise construction debris and ensure that components can be dismantled and recycled by type.

Standardised

... because knowledge embedded in prototypes is preserved and reused rather than lost as an intangible asset. Process steps, concepts and system solutions become standards. Leveraging repetition and a product-focused approach, we benefit from smarter, safer and semi-automated construction and operational processes, paving the way for more prefabrication in construction and digitally coordinated operations.

Digital

... because technologies affect how we collaborate and generate value. By embracing digitalisation as an opportunity, we can achieve results that were previously unimaginable. Artificial intelligence makes these technologies accessible and usable for everyone – even without specialised prior knowledge.

Sustainable construction and operation

More is more  Higher density leads to better urban quality, greater diversity, stronger social interaction and more affordable housing.

More is less – Higher density in integrated locations reduces per-person CO₂ emissions from mobility and lowers per capita costs.

Less is less – Less space (m³ and m²) per person, simpler technology and fewer overdesigned bespoke solutions reduce material use, CO₂ emissions during construction and operation, resource consumption and user costs.

Less is more – If less construction volume is needed to meet actual requirements, sustainability increases in both construction and operation.
