Data protection

1. General Information

This Privacy Policy explains how, for what purpose, and where we process personal data in connection with our range of services, our business activities, and our websites. This statement is not exhaustive; other privacy notices or documents such as general terms and conditions, participation terms, or similar may govern specific matters.

If you provide us with personal data of other individuals, please ensure that these persons are aware of this Privacy Policy and that you are permitted to share their personal data with us, and that such data is accurate. You are also required to ensure compliance with applicable data protection law with respect to these persons.

We process your personal data responsibly, in accordance with applicable legal provisions—particularly the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the Ordinance to the Federal Act on Data Protection (OFADP)—and in line with this Privacy Policy.

You may unsubscribe from notifications and communications such as newsletters at any time. Notifications that are essential for the provision of our services remain reserved. By unsubscribing, you may also object to statistical tracking for performance and reach measurement purposes.

By using this website or any platform or app we provide, you consent to the collection, processing, and use of data in accordance with the provisions below. This website can generally be used without registration. In such cases, data such as accessed pages or file names, date, and time may be stored on the server for statistical purposes without being directly linked to your identity. Personal data such as your name, address, or email address will be collected only on a voluntary basis whenever possible.

3. Processing of Personal Data

3.1 Definitions

"Personal data" refers to all information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
"Processing" includes any operation performed on personal data, regardless of the means or procedures used, in particular the collection, recording, storage, alteration, disclosure, archiving, destruction, and use of such data.

3.2 Nature, Scope, and Purpose

We primarily process personal data to ensure that our service offerings and performance are provided on a continuous, user-friendly, secure, and reliable basis, to inform you about them, and to fulfil our contractual and legal obligations. In particular, we process your personal data for the following purposes:

Responding to your inquiries and communicating with you;

Providing, analysing, and optimising our website and social media pages;

Marketing and advertising, as well as informing you about new developments at Halter and our new services.

In this context, we process data that a person voluntarily provides when contacting us (e.g., by postal mail, email, contact form, social media, or telephone) or when registering for a user account on our website or a platform we provide. We may store such data in an address book, a customer relationship management system (CRM), or similar tools.

We also process personal data that we receive from third parties. This regularly includes data obtained through correspondence, meetings, or other exchanges with clients, partners, suppliers, and similar parties. We may further process personal data obtained from publicly accessible sources or collected during the provision of our services, provided that such processing is legally permissible.

We retain personal data for as long as necessary for the purpose(s) for which it was collected or as required by law. Personal data that is no longer required is anonymised or deleted. Individuals whose data we process generally have the right to request deletion. Unnecessary personal data will be deleted.

Personal data from job applications is processed only insofar as it is necessary to assess suitability for employment or to perform an employment contract.

3.3 Location of Data Processing

We generally process and store your personal data in Switzerland.

3.4 Processing and Disclosure of Personal Data to Third Parties

We may have personal data processed by authorised third parties, jointly process it with third parties, or disclose it to them. We ensure that appropriate data protection standards are maintained by such third parties. These may include in particular:

Other group companies;

External service providers, suppliers, and business partners;

Other clients;

(Where applicable) authorities and courts.

Such third parties are generally located in Switzerland or within the European Economic Area (EEA) but may also be located in other countries or territories—potentially anywhere in the universe—provided that the recipient country ensures an adequate level of data protection, or adequate protection is otherwise guaranteed (for example, by contractual agreement based on standard contractual clauses or equivalent certification). Exceptionally, such third parties may be located in a country without adequate data protection if the legal requirements, such as your explicit consent, are met.

4. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure data protection and, in particular, data security. Based on our risk assessment, we implement measures such as access controls, permission management, and procedures for the regular review, assessment, and evaluation of the effectiveness of our safeguards.

Access to our online services is secured through transport encryption (SSL / TLS, typically via the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure – HTTPS). Most browsers display transport encryption with a padlock icon in the address bar.

5. Use of the Website

5.1 General

You may visit our website to learn about our range of services without disclosing your identity. As with any connection to a web server, the server hosting our website automatically logs and temporarily stores certain technical data. This may include the IP address and operating system of your device, the date and time of your visit, and the type of browser used to access the site.

5.2 Cookies

We typically use “cookies”, “tags”, and similar technologies on our websites and apps to identify your browser or device. A cookie is a text file sent to and automatically stored by your web browser on your computer or mobile device when you visit our website or use our app. When you return to our website or use our app again, we can recognise you—even if we do not know who you are.

In addition to session cookies (deleted once you leave the website), we may also use persistent cookies to store user settings and other information for a defined period (e.g. two years). You can configure your browser to reject cookies, store them for a single session only, or delete them prematurely. Most browsers are set by default to accept cookies.

We use persistent cookies to store user preferences (e.g. language, auto-login), to better understand how our offerings are used, and to display tailored offers and advertising – possibly also on third-party websites. In such cases, those third parties do not receive information identifying you personally (if we even have it) but can detect that the same user who visited our site has also visited theirs. Some cookies are set by us, others by contractual partners. Blocking cookies may cause certain functionalities (e.g. language selection) to stop working.

By using our websites, platforms, or apps, and by consenting to receive newsletters or other marketing emails, you agree to the use of these technologies. If you do not, you must adjust your browser or email-program settings, or uninstall the app if settings cannot be changed.

5.3 Social Plugins

Social plugins used on our website allow you to recommend and share our content on social networks. These plugins are identifiable by the respective network’s logo. When you interact with such a plugin, data are transmitted to the provider of the social network.

5.4 Server Log Files

For each access to our website, we may collect the following information (if transmitted by your browser or determined by our server infrastructure):
date and time including time zone; IP address; access status (HTTP status code); operating system including interface and version; browser including language and version; accessed sub-pages including data volume transferred; and the previously visited page in the same browser window (referrer URL).

5.5 Tracking Pixels

We may use tracking pixels (also known as web beacons) on our website, including those from third parties whose services we use. These are small, usually invisible images automatically loaded when you visit our website. Tracking pixels can capture the same data as server log files.

5.6 Contact Form

If you send us enquiries via a contact form, the information you provide—including your contact details—will be stored for the purpose of processing your request and in case of follow-up questions.

6. Notifications and Communications

We send notifications and communications such as newsletters by email or other channels, for example instant messaging.
Such communications may include web links or tracking pixels that record whether a message has been opened and which links were clicked. These technologies can also track the use of notifications on an individual basis.

We send notifications and communications through third-party services or with the help of service providers, possibly using cookies. We ensure appropriate data protection in all such cases.

We in particular use:

ClickDimensions – a platform for email and CRM-based marketing.
Provider: ClickDimensions LLC (USA)
Privacy information: see the ClickDimensions Privacy Policy.

7. Performance and Reach Measurement

We use analytics tools and programs to understand how our online offerings are used. This allows us to measure the performance and reach of our content and third-party links to our site. We may also test and compare how different versions or elements of our online offering perform (“A/B testing”). Based on these findings, we correct errors, strengthen popular content, and improve our digital services.

The use of analytics tools requires storing users’ IP addresses. These are generally shortened (pseudonymised) in accordance with the principle of data minimisation and to enhance visitor privacy (“IP masking”).

Cookies and pseudonymised user profiles may also be used. User profiles may include visited pages, viewed content, screen size, browser window dimensions, and approximate location. We do not use these profiles to identify individual visitors. Some external services, where you have an account, may associate your use of our site with your personal profile—typically only if you have consented to such linkage.

We in particular use:

Google Analytics

Analytics service for performance and reach measurement.
Providers: Google LLC (USA) / Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) for users in the EEA and Switzerland.
Privacy information: Measurement across browsers and devices (cross-device tracking) with pseudonymised IP addresses that are only exceptionally transmitted in full to the USA. See Google’s “Privacy and Security Principles”, Privacy Policy, “Guide to Privacy in Google Products” (incl. Google Analytics), “How Google uses data from sites and apps that use our services”, “How Google uses cookies”, “Browser Add-on to deactivate Google Analytics”, and “Personalised Advertising” (activation / deactivation / settings).

Google Tag Manager

Tool for integrating and managing analytics and other services from Google or third parties.
Providers: Google LLC (USA) / Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) for users in the EEA and Switzerland.
Privacy information: see the privacy documentation of the integrated services.

This website may also use Google Conversion Tracking. When you reach our site via a Google ad, Google Ads places a cookie on your device. This cookie expires after 30 days and is not used for personal identification. If you visit certain pages while the cookie is active, we and Google can recognise that you clicked on the ad and were redirected to that page. Each Ads customer receives a unique cookie, so the data cannot be tracked across different websites. The collected information helps compile conversion statistics for Ads customers. They learn how many users clicked their ads and reached a page with a conversion tag, but they do not receive information that personally identifies users.

If you prefer not to be tracked, you can reject cookies via your browser settings—either generally or specifically for the domain googleleadservices.com.
Please note that opt-out cookies must remain stored as long as you wish to prevent tracking; deleting all cookies will require you to set new opt-outs.

This website may also use the Google Remarketing Function, which allows interest-based ads within the Google Advertising Network. A “cookie” stored in your browser enables recognition when you visit other sites in the network and allows ads related to previously viewed content to be displayed. According to Google, no personal data are collected in this process. You can deactivate this feature in your Google settings or via the Network Advertising Initiative’s opt-out instructions.

8. Social Media

On our social-media pages, we publish content about current developments at Halter and information about our services.
The respective platform providers collect and analyse usage data, such as the number of visits and demographic information about visitors to our corporate pages.

We receive aggregated or otherwise sufficiently anonymised statistical reports from these providers. Only the respective platform operator can identify you on the basis of the collected usage data. Please therefore also review the privacy policies of the respective providers for details about their data processing.

9. Third-Party Services

We use services provided by third parties to ensure that our offerings remain reliable, user-friendly, secure, and continuously available, and to embed content into our website. Such services – for example, hosting, storage, video, and payment services – require your Internet Protocol (IP) address in order to deliver content properly. These providers may be located outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area (EEA), provided that adequate data protection is ensured.

For their own security, statistical, or technical purposes, third parties whose services we use may also process data relating to our offerings from various sources – including cookies, log files, and tracking pixels – in aggregated, anonymised, or pseudonymised form.

Our website may contain links to external third-party websites. When following such links, please note that these websites are governed by their own privacy policies. We accept no responsibility or liability for those policies or for any processing of your personal data by the operators of such websites.

9.1 Configuration Options

We use third-party services to communicate more effectively with you and with others such as customers or partners. We ensure that appropriate data protection standards are maintained by these providers.

We in particular use:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Provider: Microsoft Corporation (USA)
Privacy information: see Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.

9.2 Maps

We use third-party services to embed maps on our website.

In particular:

Google Maps (including Google Maps Platform) – mapping service
Providers: Google LLC (USA) / Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) for users in the EEA and Switzerland
Privacy information: see Google’s “Privacy and Security Principles”, Privacy Policy, “Guide to Privacy in Google Products” (including Google Maps), “How Google uses data from sites or apps that use our services”, “How Google uses cookies”, and “Personalised Advertising” (enable / disable / settings).

9.3 Fonts

We use third-party services to embed selected fonts, icons, logos, and symbols in our website.

In particular:

MyFonts (by Monotype) – font services
Providers: Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc. (USA) / MyFonts Inc. (USA)
Privacy information: see “Your Privacy”, Privacy Policy, and “Web Font Tracking Privacy Policy”.

9.4 Advertising

We make use of opportunities to display targeted advertising for our offerings on third-party platforms such as social-media networks and search engines.

Our goal is to reach people who are interested in or already use our services (remarketing and targeting). For this purpose, we may transmit relevant – possibly personal – data to third parties that enable such advertising. We may also determine whether our advertising is effective, particularly whether it leads to visits to our website (conversion tracking).

Third parties on whose platforms we advertise, and with whom you as a user may have an account, may be able to link your use of our offerings to your profile there.

We in particular use:

Facebook / Instagram Ads – social-media advertising
Providers: Facebook Inc. (USA) / Facebook Ireland Ltd. (Ireland)
Privacy information: remarketing and targeting, especially via the Facebook Pixel and Custom Audiences (including Lookalike Audiences); see Facebook Privacy Policy and “Ad Preferences” (user login required).

Google Ads (formerly AdWords) – see Section 7.

LinkedIn Ads – social-media advertising
Providers: LinkedIn Corporation (USA) / LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company (Ireland)
Privacy information: remarketing and targeting, especially via the LinkedIn Insight Tag; see “Privacy”, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Opt-out of personalised advertising.

10. Rights of Data Subjects

Under the applicable data-protection laws, and to the extent provided therein, you have the right:

to obtain information about your personal data;

to request correction or deletion;

to restrict or object to the processing of your data – particularly for direct-marketing purposes, profiling related to direct marketing, or other legitimate interests in processing; and

to request the transfer of certain personal data to another controller (data portability).

Please note that we may rely on statutory exceptions, for example when we are legally obliged to retain or process certain data, have an overriding interest in doing so (where permissible), or need the data to assert legal claims.

Exercising such rights usually requires proof of identity (e.g. by providing a copy of an identity document where your identity is otherwise unclear or cannot be verified). To exercise your rights, please contact us at the address indicated in Section 2.

In addition, every data subject has the right to seek judicial remedy or to lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection authority.
The competent authority in Switzerland is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) (http://www.edoeb.admin.ch
).

11. Final Provisions

We may amend or supplement this Privacy Policy at any time.
We will inform you appropriately of any such amendments, in particular by publishing the updated version on our website.
