For 130 years, cellulose was produced industrially on the Attisholz site. Since the end of 2016, Halter AG has been working with the local authority and canton to redevelop this site, with its exceptional location, for future generations. The aim of the phased development is to preserve the historic, partly heritage-listed buildings and carefully convert them for contemporary use. Unlike many conversion sites, Attisholz is not located within an urban structure, but is a compact island in the middle of open landscape directly on the River Aare – which is why the design of the open space is of central importance.
The site is already an attraction today: the Kiesofenhalle, which has been converted into an event hall, the Attisholz Arena and the newly designed boulevard provide space for cultural events and public occasions. Living space is being created in the old Lagerhaus and the old Kocherei – condominium sales for the Lagerhaus project have already begun.
Over the next twenty to thirty years, a vibrant neighbourhood will gradually emerge, a natural coexistence of living, working, education and research – of life, experience and enjoyment in an attractive recreational area on the Aare.
