The site of the one-time depot in Münchenstein, now given over to cultural and artistic activities, is a sensitive blend of industrial and contemporary architecture. The striking transit warehouse has stood alongside the School of Art and Design and the Helsinki Dreispitz building, which towers up over 40 metres. Some 45 percent of the available area is used commercially for offices, gastronomy, retail and studios, while 55 percent is given over to residential properties. The building houses 101 rental apartments with between one and four bedrooms, as well as parkland and open spaces. The plans for the conversion and extension of the transit warehouse were made by the internationally operational Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), a firm of Danish architects. Eye-catching BIG projects can be found all over the world: in Shanghai, Miami and Malmö, for instance.
