Building permit application submitted for the reopening of Buvette Sonnenberg in Seelisberg

30. Oktober 2026 Schlieren / Seelisberg

The historic buvette at the Sonnenberg site in Seelisberg is to be renovated and reopened. A seasonal café and kiosk is planned for the building. Halter AG is developing the project and has submitted the relevant building permit application. The opening is scheduled for spring 2027. This will make the first part of the Sonnenberg site accessible to the public once again.

The existing building, dating back to 1875, will undergo extensive renovation and careful restoration of its historic appearance. The aim is to preserve the character of the buvette while providing the infrastructure required for its future catering operations.

Seasonal operation from April to October
The buvette is planned to operate seasonally from April to October, offering a simple selection of food and drinks. It will feature a compact kitchen, a sales area and a publicly accessible information and visitor area. The menu will include coffee and croissants, small hot and cold dishes, regional products, desserts and refreshments. Depending on visitor numbers, self-service or staffed service will be offered.

In addition to its daily operations, pre-booked group gatherings and smaller events will be possible. The buvette is intended to serve the residents of Seelisberg as well as visitors and hikers, while encouraging access on foot, by bicycle or by public transport.

A tenant-operator is currently being sought to run the buvette. The corresponding listing has been published on the GastroSuisse platform.

Part of the implementation of the Sonnenberg project
The reopening of the buvette is in line with the requirements of the Sonnenberg neighbourhood design plan. This provides for the preservation of the historic site and public access to the viewing terrace. The renovation of the buvette represents a first step in the further implementation of the Sonnenberg project.

As part of the historic terrace and promenade complex at Sonnenberg, the buvette dates back to a time when the site served as a place for relaxation, dining and social life. The planned renovation and reopening build on this history, continuing the tradition of hospitality at this distinctive location high above Lake Lucerne.
