Limmatwest, Zürich

With Limmatwest, Halter initiated a process of development in the former industrial area west of Escher-Wyss-Platz, which has since been transformed like no other district in Zurich. In 1988 textile dyeing company Schoeller Hardturm AG discontinued operations. The complex between the River Limmat and Hardturmstrasse was built in two stages between 1997 and 2002. Today, the residential area contains more than 300 single-level, maisonette and attic apartments, commercial space and – as a reminder of its former use – the Färbereihalle (the dyeing shop), which is now used for cultural events. Living here has a distinctly urban feel but is also highly individual: residents are in a peaceful environment surrounded by unusual architecture and landscapes. Halter Inc. head offices are also located in Limmatwest.
