In November 2001, planning commenced for the repurposing of an industrial site to the east of the SBB rail station in Basel that had previously been used for milk processing. Various considerations as to its future utilization and a market analysis had put the focus firmly on development of the site for service providers and residential properties. The site has been divided into four sections: Site C contains a building mainly used for office space, while Site D is home to the Senevita Gellertblick residence offering flats for the elderly and nursing homes. A 10-storey building with 117 rental apartments and commercial space was built on Site A, while Site B has a 12-storey residential and commercial property with 78 apartments and a hotel with 137 rooms.
